McGillivray was the second pick on Team dos Santos and third overall. Lesnar had selected his number one pick, Len Bentley, to face McGillivray. After a two round war, McGillivray was declared the victor by majority decision, moving him into the quarter-finals.
For his quarterfinal fight, he was selected to face Tony Ferguson
. Ferguson quickly won the fight via TKO, and McGillivray's loss took him out of the tournament.

Early life
Ryan McGillivray was born in Duncan, British Columbia, and lived there before his family moved to Edmonton, Alberta when was 12-years-old. He was very involved in sports, and as a teenager participated in hockey, baseball and lacrosse at the highest club levels in Canada while he earned his diploma at Spruce Grove Composite High School.Early career
At the age of 16, McGillivray broke his back playing lacrosse, and lost two years of athletic competition as a result, ballooning up to 260 lbs. When he had fully recovered, McGillivray wanted to pursue athletics as a full time career. His father, a former amateur boxer, pointed him in the direction of a local gym, where he started to pursue that discipline. McGillivray began training and almost instantly fell in love with the sport of mixed martial arts. Three months later he had his first professional fight and today he sports an 11-5-1 professional record, the nine submissions on his résumé speaking to the progress he has made since starting out as a boxer.The Ultimate Fighter
