SS Green Mountain State (T-ACS-9)

SS Green Mountain State (T-ACS-9) was laid down on 2 December 1963, as the breakbulk ship, SS Mormacaltair, a Maritime Administration type (C6-S-60a) hull, under Maritime Administration contract (MA 143) at Ingalls Shipbuilding Inc., Pascagoula, MS. She was launched, 20 August 1964 and delivered to the Moore-McCormack Lines, 26 March 1965. She was renamed SS American Altair, date unknown and reacquired by the Maritime Administration (MARAD) in 1987 at which time she was converted to a MARAD type hull (C6-S-MA60d) Crane Ship at National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., San Diego, CA. She was then assigned by the Maritime Administration to the Ready Reserve Force, (RRF), under operation control of Military Sealift Command
(MSC) and placed in service as Green Mountain State (ACS-9), 15 March 1992. Green Mountain State was berthed at Bremerton, WA. and assigned to Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron Three where she was maintained in a five-day readiness status. She was removed from MSC control, withdrawn from the RRF by reassignment to the National Defense Reserve Fleet (Beaumont, TX) on 28 July 2006. She has since been reassigned to the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet.
