, SPH’s flagship newspaper and Singapore’s national English broadsheet, the numbers “701” convey what the website hopes the user will experience: "7 days a week search at the 01 place that matters".
After the launch of the job portal, effort was diversified towards the development of 3 other section that would cover motoring, property and general merchandise and services. It detailed how Colleen Francesca, a former Miss Singapore-World, was able to buy and sell everything she needs to meet her daily needs without leaving "home" - a glass house at Raffles Place Park in full public view - for a week. Retaining The Straits Times identity, these sections were subsequently named ST701 Jobs, ST701 Cars, ST701 Property and ST701 Shops.
In 2008, ST701 Spree was launched to help local shoppers gain access to merchandise from overseas online shopping websites in an activity termed "spree-ing".
In 2010, a strategic realignment of Rednano led to the birth of the new Directory vertical in ST701. The Search Engine Marketing (SEM) arm of Rednano was also shifted to ST701.
