. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 8,226 people in 1,467 households. The municipal district comprising the island was created with the name Carabao Island on June 18, 1961 by Republic Act No. 3423, and was renamed as San Jose on June 19, 1965 by Republic Act No. 4289.
