It is about 70 km north of Milan
and about 30 km northeast of Como
. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,826 and an area of 18.55 km².
The comune was formed on March 30, 1999, by the fusion of the former comuni of Sant'Abbondio and Santa Maria Rezzonico.
San Siro borders the following municipalities: Cremia, Menaggio, Plesio
; and, on the other side of the lake in the Province of Lecco
