Political career
McAdams served six years on the Sitka School Board. He served as the board's president from 2005 to 2008 and served a term as the president of the Association of Alaska School Boards. McAdams was elected to a two-year term as the mayor of Sitka, Alaska in 2008. After choosing not to run again in the city election for mayor, McAdams' term ended on the 26th of October, 2010.
