Porteous says "Without getting too deep... the album is called Near Death Experiment because, apart from calling this whole thing an experience, I see it as somewhat of an experiment. An experiment on me from a higher power, to make me a better person, to treat life the way it should be and to not take things for granted. Buying a nice car or a big house can be fun, but they're not real. They don't have a pulse. We sometimes forget these things."
A while later he was asked to join local indie act Seneka as second guitarist. He was hired by the drummer at the time, his former classmate and ex-drummer for One Way, Paul Bannon. He played with them until 2005 and by mutual agreement he left to continue his acoustic work along with producing.

and Mike Smith
left the band due to creative differences. Lead singer Fred Durst
