 in 2005 and 2006 Verschuren made his international senior debut at the 2006 European Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary with an 19th position in the 1500 m freestyle.

Two years later he started in Eindhoven in his homecountry at the 2008 European Aquatics Championships. Where he started in the 200 m freestyle reaching a 13th position and in the 4×200 m freestyle ending up 9th in the heats just missing out for the final and the 2008 Summer Olympics
