. Sitting on the school ground is the Hull City Learning Centre (North Site) which is no longer part of the City Learning Centres as it is now a in school Information Technology building directed by the head of IT in the school.

History

In 1854 Sir Henry Cooper was elected Mayor of Hull and, on the occasion of the visit of Queen Victoria in October of that year, he received the Order of Knighthood. He became a member and first Chairman of the Hull School Board in 1871. When the Board Schools in Bean Street, Hull opened in 1876 they were named the "Sir Henry Cooper Schools" in his honour and, following their closure, the name has been perpetuated by granting it to this school when it opened in September 1967.

. However local residents are unhappy about the plans as it may affect flooding.

Academic performance

This school does not have a sixth form college, but currently has around 600 pupils. 57% of these pupils achieving Level 2 threshold (the equivalent of 5+A*-C) and %82 of the pupils achieving Level 1 threshold (the equivalent of 5+A*-G). Over the last few years the expectations and results have increased bit by bit showing the school is getting better each year. In 2009 only 77% of pupils were achieving the Level 1 threshold (the equivalent of 5+A*-G) and only 44% were achieving a Level 2 threshold (the equivalent of 5+A*-C).

Sir Henry Cooper School's students have shown a change towards positive behaviour throughout the past 5 years which is shown from the increase in percentages from the statistics gathered by the Department for Education
