Skudai Highway was originally a four-lane highway (two in each direction) but the stretch from Bandar Baru Uda to Skudai
has been widened to six lanes in 2001 to enable the highway to handle higher traffic capacity.
The Tampoi North Interchange has been upgraded to a Double U-Turn interchange
. Construction began in 2005 and was completed in 2008. Meanwhile, Skudai North junctions between route and has been upgraded to trumpet interchanges. Construction began in 2005 and was completed on August 2007.

History
Opened to traffic in 1985, Skudai Highway used to be a tolled highway until March 2004 when the federal government decided to abolish the Senai toll plaza. Previously, the concession of the highway was held by PLUS Expressway Berhad as a part of the North-South Expressway project. Today, only the Johor Causeway Toll Plaza is still in operation for Singaporean motorists, and the highway is now administered by Malaysian Public Works DepartmentMalaysian Public Works Department
