Few lines were opened after World War I. One of them connected Ormož with Ljutomer

was built in 1967. In 1999, a single-track line between Murska Sobota and Hodoš
was rebuilt, offering a direct connection with the Hungarian railway system. The line was originally built in 1907 and closed down in 1968 among numerous other lines closed down during the 1960s.
