The South Carolina Warriors are a Semi-professional
basketball team based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
and a expansion franchise team of the American Basketball Association in the Mid-Atlantic Conference which will begin play in the 2011 season. The team is built on professionalism, community and the love of the sport of basketball. They will play their first 6 games at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center
and will play their remaining 6 home games at Socastee High School
.
The Warriors first game of the season will be against the Carolina Jaguars
. The season will feature 15 home and 15 road games which will run the entire season Nov 18 through March 2012.
for the upcoming season. The CEO of the ABA Joe Newman stated “And it is long overdue. With so many teams in Georgia
and North Carolina
, we really were eager to have a team there and in this ownership, we have a rock solid group to make this something really special – and Myrtle Beach is a really special city too.”
The team will be owned by Platinum Entertainment Group LLC/Dymond Recodz (PEG) which is an Indianapolis-based company that was founded in the Fall of 2006. The companies mission is to provide the higest level of commitment and management to entertainers and athletes as well as established and aspiring music artists. The CEO of PEG is Sean Hollywood and Richard A. Rhim will serve as vice president of Operations and Finance. Sean Hollywood stated “The ABA is definitely the fusion of sports and entertainment and certainly fits the profile of our company,” stated Hollywood. “We are very excited about this and have put many things into motion which we will be announcing shortly.”
On July 29, 2011 Coastline Sports Media & The POWERade PressBox sportstalk program ( www.ThePressBoxRadio.com ) will be covering the SC Warriors every game and they wish the SC Warriors luck as the Palmetto State's newest professional team and welcome the team to the ABA!
Team Tryouts were held on Aug 9 @ The Fieldhouse in Fishers, Indiana
from 7-9pm with registration from 6-7pm. There was a tryout fee of $100 payable by cash or money order only for anyone who wanted to try out. The tryouts were a success and there were a lot of good players came out, and played very well.
On September 7, 2011 is was announced Chris Beard former assistant Texas Tech who left his job to coach the team has been signed for just one season initially as the team wants to see how the team does it's first year in terms of its over overall operation, performance and response from the community. Tony Bennett who is part owner of the team says that Chris Beard has got about 16-18 years coaching in college and that he is a very energetic, good guy. Bennett also said Beard is a great players' coach, and the city should really like him a lot and that they should embrace him. He's got a lot of charisma
Team Tryouts were held on Sept 10 and 11 @ Pepper Geddings Rec Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
from 10am-Noon with registration starting at 9am and there was a tryout fee of $100 payable by cash or money order only for anyone who wanted to try out. The Inaugural Season Schedule was release on this day.
On September 12, 2011 An update was posted on the teams Facebook page thanking everyone on who came out over the weekend to tryout. The teams will take the next six weeks to complete.
On September 20, 2011 it was announced via the teams Facebook
account and official website that the team now has an official website, but the site isn't complete with content, but they said they will let everyone know when it is. Three days later on September 23,2011 the team announced that they have signed 2 former Coastal Carolina University
greats Joe Harris and Mario Edwards who will join Jack Leasure and Colin Stevens which will give the Warriors a solid foundation to build around.
