, in 1956. His father was an accountant, and his mother owned a delicatessen. He studied at Graham Junior College and Boston University

 before entering the Juilliard School

Career

Steven Mercurio has conducted more than 65 operas in seven different languages all over the world and has worked with award-winning artists like the Three Tenors, Andrea Boccelli, and Sting.

His composition "For Lost Loved Ones" was written in honor of his younger brother, Paul, who disappeared in 1978.

In the fall of 2010, he conducted Sting's Sting and Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra world tour.
