Survivor Live! is a live stage show based on the reality television
show Survivor
.
The show consists of audience members participating in challenges inspired by the television show, tribal dance numbers and modern music. The live show's format follows the structure of the television show where a jury votes on who of the audience participants will be crowned the sole survivor. The winner of the live show originally did not win a prize but after the opening of the show the creators quickly decided to give the winner a custom "I am the sole Survivor" t-shirt.
The show does not, as originally reported, feature actors playing former Survivor television contestants; it does, however, feature an actor who is costumed to look and act very like Jeff Probst

to the stage. Executive producer Mark Burnett
was consulted but was not actively involved in the stage show. The show was created and directed by Joey Wartnerchaney. It went into a workshop that was presented to the public in February 2009. The finished stage show opened to the public in April 2009 at Elitch Gardens
in Denver and simultaneously at Frontier City
in Oklahoma City
. The show later opened at Darien Lake in Darien, New York
in May 2009.
The show was kept a secret and prior to its opening little was known about it. As a result, there was skepticism about bringing the reality show to the stage, but after it opened, it has been well received by audiences.
