Description

Located in the western part of the Ore Mountains, we are also a part of the Vogtland which derives its name from the early Middle Ages, when the area fell to the reeves of Weida (reeve means Vogt). Nowadays, the 285,000 inhabitants live in the heart of Europe between Bavaria, Thuringia and Bohemia. The Saxon Vogtland will attract you by its unique landscape, beautiful towns and idyllic villages, by natural monuments, spas, and touristic offerings ranging from ski slopes and country taverns to an aerospace exhibition.

Tannenbergsthal is worth a visit as well if you are looking for relaxation and quiet, for you find endless forests with lakes and ponds, crystal clear mountain streams, blossoming meadows, radium springs and easy walking trails there. The neighbour village Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz is a dreamy country village nearby, that exhibits not only historic buildings, a furnace and hiking trails, but also the German Aerospace Museum. And moreover, this region is the most certain of snow in the German Low Mountains. The nature reserve "Drei Bächle" is famous for the largest spruce stock in Saxony.

The village of Hammerbrücke arranges the annual husky race in February and other winter sports events as well.
