 follow the format Area Code + Phone Number. The area codes depend on the province and/or city.

To dial a number within the same province or city, only the phone number needs to be dialed.

When dialing from a different province/city, follow the format 0 + Area Code + Phone Number.

The user's phone number has 5 to 6 digits, and area code for 3 to 4 digits, but to dial within same province, the caller has to dial the whole 7 digits, not including area codes. For example, in Vung Tau

For Sai Gon, the code is 02 2 XXXXXX caller within Sai Gon dials whole 7 digits, 2 XXXXXX. The dialing plan is different to Malaysia, which use the similar plan. For example in Malaysia area code 03 used in Kuala Lumpur

Dialing directly from Vietnam to other countries is not possible. Dialing with + from mobile phones will be redirected to recorded warning message.

International dialing was illegal in Vietnam until September 1998, and since September 1998, to dial to other countries with Vietnamese phone must use the international dialing center at (02) 3001234. Foreigner's phones can dial to other countries without dialing to center by using direct +.
