School history

Temple Moor High School (pre-Science College) was founded in 1956 as Temple Moor Grammar School, a status it retained until 1973. At its inception, the school was male-only. However, this was later abolished as the times changed, and is currently a mixed gender institution (1992). The school became associated with notable local families, most credibly the DeLacy family, whom are recognized within the Temple Newsam

House system

The original houses (Manston, Scargill, Smeaton, Irwin) all derived their names from local families.

The 2006-2007 term saw the reintroduction of a House System - as part of the 50 year anniversary - with the houses named after stars. The houses colours are on the tie

Temple Moor in the news

  • Year 7 (under 12's) Rugby Team, on 13th July 2010 beat the David Young Academy 38-18 in the Leeds and Hunslet Interschools Cup Final at Headingley Carnegie.

  • The team reached the semi-final in the Carnegie Champion Schools Tournament and were drawn against St Augustine’s from St Helens to win 20-28 to take them through to the final to play Dowdales, Barrow.

  • The team played in front of a crowd of up to 90,000 at Wembley on 28th August 2010 as the curtain-raiser to the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final.
