. The high school serves approximately 800 students, and opened in 1951.
and competes in the Northern Region of class 3A. In 2011 both the girls volleyball and football teams completed "3-peat" state championships. The Wolverines are best known for its football program. The Wolverines have won 11 Nevada state championships and have finished runner-up 4 times. As of November 2011, the football team is regarded as "King of California" having the longest winning streak in all of California, smashing previous records. Truckee High School has a phenomenal Band program. It is directed by Mr. Dave Green, a well known name in music. The students learn music theory along with playing skills for their instruments. The band members also participate in Marching Band and can be seen at the varsity home games, even in rain or snow. The students also participate in Region V Honor band in Chico, California, Solo and Ensemble Festival, the local band festival, Sierra College Honor Band, and more. Annually, they take a trip known as band tour, shortened to just "tour". They take a charter bus and go to San Francisco and the surrounding bay area, and Napa, California, and play at convalescent homes, children's hospitals, elementary schools which lack music programs, and primarily Veterans homes. The people are always clearly touched by the music and it provides an amazing experience for the students.
