Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, more popularly known as Tunku 'Abidin Muhriz, is the Founding President of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), Malaysia. He was educated at the Kuala Lumpur

and the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he obtained his BSc in Government and Sociology and MSc in Comparative Politics and Imperial History. Tunku ‘Abidin worked in a number of London-based think tanks and the Houses of Parliament before moving to Washington DC to join the World Bank
as a Public Sector Consultant.
Upon returning to Kuala Lumpur in 2008, Tunku ‘Abidin worked at the United Nations Development Programme
and a regional stakeholder management firm. Throughout, he helped to develop the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS, formerly known as the Malaysia Think Tank) which he co-founded in 2006. He has maintained his regular column Abiding Times in theSun
since March 2008, and was a Research Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy
at the National University of Singapore
from March 2009 to August 2010.
He is the second son of the reigning Yang di-Pertuan Besar
of Negeri Sembilan
, Tuanku Muhriz ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir. In conjunction with his father's Installation Ceremony he wrote a book about the state's history and customs, and began a major project to revitalise the State Anthem, Berkatlah Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan
, working with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra
, which was officially launched on 26 October 2010.
He sits on the Boards of Advisors of Yayasan Munarah, Yayasan Chow Kit, the My Future Foundation and the Pusaka Foundation and is an Honorary Major in the Malaysian Territorial Army
