Ubay Airport is an airport
serving the general area of Ubay
, in the northeastern portion in the province of Bohol
in the Philippines
. It is one of two airports in Bohol, the other being Tagbilaran Airport
. It is classified as a feeder airport by the Air Transportation Office, an attached agency of the Department of Transportation and Communications
that is responsible for the operations of not only this airport but also of all other airports in the Philippines except the major international airports.
. It was used during the war, and by light planes only since then.
, Arthur C. Yap
and Rene L. Relampagos
have jointly co-authored and filed House Bill No. 2437 seeking the development of the Ubay Airport.
With the development of Ubay as the commercial, agricultural and tourism service center of Northeastern Bohol, CAAP has included the Ubay Airport in its Annual Investment Plan (AIP) for the fiscal year 2011.
In fact, it has initially programmed the Ubay Airport development which could accommodate a runway of two kilometers extendible even to three kilometers given the vast potential for its expansion therein.
The Bohol legislators said that “the Ubay Airport, together with its fast developing port, is eyed as a major support infrastructure of the Multi-Industrial Cluster (MIC) development strategy covered by an executive agreement between South Korea
and the Philippines
.”
The congressmen suggested in HB No. 2437, to tap the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF)-Export Import Bank of Korea for a concessional compact loan of US$3 million to finance the Ubay Airport Development Project. They said that the counterpart obligational authority and other expenses can be appropriated from the CAAP corporate funds.
The bill asserted that the airport, once upgraded, can accommodate domestic flights to spur tourism, commerce and industry in the Northeastern Corridor of Bohol and balance the economic development in the province which is heavily tilted to Tagbilaran City
and Panglao Island
.
Under the Bohol Tourism Master Plan, the next major tourism destination to be extensively developed will be the scenic eco-heritage Anda Peninsula with white sandy beaches against the backdrop of lush mountain vegetation, and the panoramic Mindanao Sea comparable to the beauty of the Mediterranean seascape.
The bill also said that the world-famous Chocolate Hills in Sagbayan
and Carmen
and the eco-adventure tourism in historic Danao
town would be less than one (1) hour away from the Ubay Airport, while Tagbilaran City
and Panglao Island are just a little over an hour away in the light of Bohol’s very good highways.
The Boholano legislators argued furthermore that the airport can host aviation schools also and serve as training facility to relieve the Mactan-Cebu International Airport
and the Tagbilaran Airport
from training flights of aviation students.
Meanwhile, Aumentado, Yap, and Relampagos agreed to unite always to push for projects and legislations that could spur Bohol’s economic development.
They said they are also committed to support the Aquino
and the Chatto administrations for the good of the country and Bohol.
