 is surprised when the police bring Ula to his door step. Ula had previously been living in Wellington with her mother Vasa Levi and Vasa's new husband, Travis. Ula tells Maxwell she ran away from home because her stepfather was abusive and she was going to a friends party in Auckland. Ula's mother arrives and soon, Ula gets confirmation she will be staying in Auckland with her mother.

Ula is devastated when she learns Maxwell is not her biological father and becomes extremely angry and upset.

Ula starts to attend Ferndale High School, and after not being able to make friends, Ula starts to bully younger girl, Jasmine Cooper. This starts an intense rivalry between Ula and Jasmine's older brother, Evan. Ula strikes up a friendship with gawky teenager Phoenix

 and soon develops a crush on him. When Ula plants a kiss on him, he walks away and Ula gets teased by Evan. Ula starts the rumour Phoenix is gay, which Phoenix later dispels. Ula, Phoenix and Evan soon get into all sorts of trouble including; sneaking alcohol into the formal, flooding out a woman's house and Ula witnesses a drunken Evan fall out of a tree.

Ula steals Jasmine's diary in late 2010 and learns she too has a crush on Phoenix. When Evan runs away from home in December 2010, Ula and Phoenix help him hide from his parents.

2011

Ula and Phoenix begin to date but Phoenix soon chooses Jasmine over Ula, leading her to start to date older man Holden in May. However he becomes overbearing and after nearly getting raped, Ula finds comfort in nemesis, Evan Cooper. Evan urges Ula to confide in her father before he leaves to spend several months working in Australia. She refuses, but Nicole picks up that something's wrong and prompts a fatherly chat. Ula tries to open up, but chickens out and Maxwell leaves none the wiser. Evan tries to cheer up a withdrawn Ula, until Jasmine's jealous teasing about Holden sees his good work undone. Telling Jasmine off, Evan reveals that Ula never had sex with Holden. Jasmine suddenly feels guilty for competing with Ula by pressuring Phoenix for sex. On the 20th June episode, it is hinted that Evan may have a crush on her after he had refused to invite her and Phoenix over at his place, because it was in a mess and his family were around. To Evan's surprise both, Ula and Phoenix arrive there. Ula wanted some help with her science homework which involved lemons and so she, Phoenix and Evan work together on it until later on Phoenix leaves and the two successfully complete the science experiment together. They then realize they have something in common about having family around and realizing that it wasn't so bad hanging around each other.
