Valley Fight
Encyclopedia
Valley Fight is a Canadian mixed martial arts (MMA)
promotion. It is one of the premier fight cards currently in Western Canada
. Valley Fight prides themselves in being a "Grassroots" promotion, giving local fighters a place to start their careers before sending them to bigger promotions. The events take place in Chilliwack, British Columbia
. Unlike the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)
which take place in a cage, Valley Fight takes place inside a ring similar to Japanese promotions such as DREAM
or Pride.
No fights are on record since 4/3/2009 and as of 9/15/2010 the Valley Fight website says "No above ground events are currently being planned".
City Council banned all mixed martial arts sporting events from taking place within city limits. It was assumed that other communities within the Fraser Valley
would follow.
On July 25, 2008 the Chilliwack Times, in an article headlined Blood Sport, reported that MMA events will not be held on city-owned property anytime soon. This led to an influx of letters to the editor from both sides, some supporting the city, and some for Valley Fight. The official Valley Fight website blog was constantly updated in the weeks following campaigning for their cause.
