KCP and its group of industries were founded by Sri Velagapudi Rama Krishna. KIC, a subsidiary of KCP, produces CO2 (Soda gas). Farmers, who grow sugar-cane, bring the harvest to this factory during the season. The season usually starts in the month of October and ends in April. KCP Sugar factory was the first to start production of ethanol
in south India.

A bypass road was constructed in 1987 to divert traffic from Vuyyuru roads. This bypass connects Machilipatnam with the Hyderabad National Highway 9. All heavy vehicles travel over this road to ease traffic through town. Land alongside this road are sold at very high prices. This bypass road was neglected by the government until 2001. After 2001, AP state government built some government offices along this road like police station

The government-owned bus service APSRTC established a bus stand and bus depot in 1987. The chief minister of the state N. T. Rama Rao
was laid the foundation stone for the project in 1987. The bus depot closed in 2007, as the route was losing money. Recently i.e. in March 2010 the Depot was reopened and started its operations operating new JNNURM buses between Vijayawada and Vuyyuru and other services also started.
Thotlavalluru and few other villages are located on the banks of River Krishna, during the summer season Sand digging is the prime revenue for the government. All through April and May sand digging contracts will be sold by the government under the panchayat limits.

Prior to the construction of the KCP sugar factory in 1941, irrigation facilities were limited. KCP has a processing capacity 8500 TCD, and is one of the largest sugar factories in the country and also one among the most modern. Previously, Vuyyuru was an assembly constituency . But after the reorganization, it is now a part of the Penamaluru assembly constituency. Now, Mr. Kolusu Parthasarathy of Congress party is the MLA. Canals and Natural Resources
A canal (fondly called pulleru) flows throw the town of Vuyyuru. First bridge was constructed on this canal around 1890. Until 1988 small boats used to ply in some regions to transport people across. Currently there are close to 6 bridges on this canal. This canal is drawn from Krishna river. Most of the irrigation canals are drawn from this. Even the water requirement of KCP Sugar Factory is too met with this.
