 system. Initially working construction trains on the Kwinana-Leighton standard-gauge line, they were re-allocated to Avon, Leighton and Midland yards once regular services began. Powered by a 6 cylinder EMD 567

C producing 600hp, these locomotives are carried by Clyde Bo-Bo flexicoil bogies fitted with stronger traction motors than the Y-class, being rated at 155kW. There are 5 locomotives in the class, numbered J101 to J105.

J101

  • Entered service in July 1966.
  • Withdrawn from service at Midland Workshops in September 1986, it was used as a source of spares for the 567C-engined A-class mainline locomotives. The remaining shell was scrapped in 1993.

J102

  • Entered service in August 1966.
  • Sold to GNR in 1995.
  • Sold to CFCLA in December 2002.
  • Repainted into Southern Shorthaul Rail (SSR) livery in April 2004.

J103

  • Entered service in September 1966.
  • Sold to GNR in 1995.
  • Sold to CFCLA in December 2002.
  • Repainted into SSR livery in April 2004.

J104

  • Entered service in September 1966.
  • Last unit in service to the WA Government as a shunter at West Merriden yards.
  • Sold to Great Northern Rail Services (GNR) in 1995. Sold to Rail Technical Services (RTS) in 1996 and repainted into RTS blue livery.
  • Sold to Genessee and Wyoming Australia (GWA) in 2003 and repainted into Freightlink livery for use in Alice Springs.
  • Re-entered service in 2004 as FJ104.

J105

  • Entered service in October 1966.
  • Sold to GNR in 1995 and repainted into National Rail livery in 1996.
  • Sold to CFCLA in December 2002.
  • Sold to GWA in 2003 and repainted into Freightlink livery for use in Darwin.
  • Re-entered service in 2004 as FJ105.
