gave the song four and a half stars, and characterized it as "perfect slow dance option". He said "Chris Brown makes countless young fans swoon, but, until now, he has not yet released a top-notch romantic performance. With You is that performance. The lyrics may be a bit simplistic in the "you're everything, you make me swoon" style, but this sound is a great one for staring into your lover's eyes as you make your way across a darkened dance floor. This is the first great wedding/prom song of 2008". He complimented Stargate for the "instrumental track based around strumming guitar similar to their phenomenal success with Beyoncé
's "Irreplaceable
". He also said, "With You helps prove that Chris Brown is not only an amazingly talented dancer, he can truly communicate to an audience vocally as well. Look for this song as a key choice at romantic shenanigans events 2008 and beyond" and he also said it was "Chris Brown's best romantic vocal performance yet".
Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone Magazine said that the song was “the convincer”. He also said “even if you can instantly tell that producer Stargate was just trying to roll out "Irreplaceable" one more time — Brown moans over the acoustic-guitar loop with a poignant R&B surge, sending this one out to hearts all over the world tonight." Chris Brown Also says this song is one of his most influential songs by far on his album, "Exclusive", stating that this song reaches out to many of the fans that support him.
