The old York Mills Station was also a GO Transit

 terminal, but today GO buses use their own terminal, off Yonge Street, just north of York Mills Road. The current station and underground bus platforms was built between 1985 to 1992 with the development of York Mills Centre.

The original plan was for a station and a railway bridge over the river to be built above ground, but local residents objected and the underground layout was substituted. Consequently, trains approach the station from both directions on a steep downgrade and usually at high rates of speed.
