Şehzade Korkut was an Ottoman
prince who was a short time regent for the Ottoman throne.

) in 1467. His father was Beyazıt II. There is no consensus on the name of his mother. She was either a certain Nigar Khatun or Gülbahar Sultan
. If the later is true, he was the full brother of Selim I
(the inflexible). When his grandfather Mehmet II (the conqueror) died in 1481, he was the oldest Ottoman prince residing in İstanbul
. So he was the regent for 18 days before his father Beyazıt II arrived in İstanbul.

in modern Turkey). In 1502 he was appointed as the governor of Teke ( Antalya

coast. Antalya was much further from İstanbul than Manisa and Korkut interpreted this appointment as a relegation. He asked for his former seat; but upon refusal in 1509, he escaped to Egypt
under the pretext of pilgrim. Egypt was under Mamluk
rule, and he was welcomed by the Mamluk sultans. But this was considered as indicipline by his father. After being excused for his behavior he returned to Ottoman lands
During his voyage to back home, Knights Hospitalier tried to capture his ship. But he managed to escape from the knights.
. Later he secretly travelled to İstanbul to have a voice on the coming interregnum. But he found almost no supporters in the capital. Besides he met with Selim and Selim convinced him to return to his sanjak. So he gave up hopes to be a sultan and took no part in the civil war between his two brothers (Şehzade Ahmet
and Selim I)

Beginning of the interregnum
