Bukedea District was created by Act of the Ugandan Parliament, in 2006 and became operational on 1 July 2007. Prior to that the district was part of Kumi District

Population

The national census in 2002 estimated the population of the district at about 122,500. The annual population growth rate in the district is 3.3%. Using those statistics, it is estimated that the population of Bukedea District in 2010 was approximately 158,900. See table below:
