Since its foundation by the Honourable Mitchell Sharp
in 1961, CHF has implemented about 800 projects in more than 40 countries.
The Organization declares its mission to assist the rural poor to have access to water, land, energy, technology and other resources for sustainable and healthy living conditions. First of all, it aims to help rural communes to become self-sufficient. The agency is financially sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency

), the Sprott Foundation and has among its donors such institutions as Asian Development Bank
