Dan attended L'Amoreaux Collegiate Institute
in Scarborough in the mid 1970s and founded an in school radio station, Radio L'Am along with several other like minded friends. He also was active in student council activities.

He hosted various weekend talk programs on CFRB in Toronto. When he didn't arrive at work one Saturday in early 2001, he was found dead in his home by former Test Pattern co-host Bill Carroll Saturday afternoon after a sudden illness. It was believed that Gallagher had been battling pneumonia since a recent trip to Barbados.
