Westlife
. It was released on November 18, 2011 by RCA Records
and Sony Music
. Greatest Hits is the group's second greatest hits album following Unbreakable: The Greatest Hits Volume 1 (2002). The album is the group's first album not under Syco Music and not under the tutelage of Simon Cowell

"Lighthouse
", produced by John Shanks
, which was released on November 14, 2011.
, they said that Westlife has taken their music and career to another level. “‘We’re all at least 30 years of age. We could all go home now and we’d be all right for the rest of our lives,’ Feehily says. “So, if we are going to make more records, we want to do it well. Otherwise we don’t want to do it at all.”
The album is a three-disc set. In 4 September 2011, Amazon.co.uk and Play.com
revealed aside from the standard and deluxe editions, each record stores have included free postcards and an exclusively signed copies respectively. In 8 September 2011, the pre-order link for the said album has already been available for 36 countries on their official store. In 15 September 2011, the pre-order link for the special limited edition of the box set was announced.` It featured a 2CD/DVD deluxe version of the boys' Greatest Hits album alongside a poster and exclusive pictures of the boys and included a special photobook showing the boys incredible journey over the last 14 years including a selection of submitted fan pictures. As a special thank you for all of the amazing support so far, the boys have signed the first 500 copies of the box set. The signed edition of the album was sold-out in less than 24 hours. Before that, in August 2011 they made a contest for the fans to contribute on the upcoming Westlife boxset. They were looking to make a special boxset filled with some of the greatest things that you have collected over your time as a Westlife fan. In 27 and 31 October 2011, Sony Music announced a "PureSolo competition" of singing along with their hits and "an "album listening party" respectively. On 6 November 2011, they launched a joined venture with MixPixie that customize a personalised album cover. This product is approved by several music record labels and will be fully launched by the year 2012. Westlife is the first on-hand to accept this procuct. A final tracklist for the collection of the 18-track standard edition of the album was confirmed by Swedish
's CDON.com while the additional deluxe edition wasn't revealed yet. On 12 October 2011, the official site completely announced the tracklisting.. While 4music
first announced the tracklisting for the DVD. There are four new tracks on the standard edition, those are: "Beautiful World" (written by Feehily, Shanks and Ruth-Anne Cunningham
), "Wide Open" and "Last Mile Of The Way" (co-written by Byrne, Filan, Dimitri Ehrlich, Coyle Girelli) and the lead single to be released on 14 November 2011, "Lighthouse
". According to group member Kian Egan
, the band were asked by their record label if they wanted to re-record the vocals by former member Brian McFadden
for the album. The band rejected the proposal as they "wanted to keep it true to the original singles".
starting on 17 September 2011, same time with the lead single music video shoot. It was described as a "very special photo shoot" on Female First. On 12 October 2011, the official site posted the album artwork. Julia Simpson of Yahoo OMG! UK reported: "`Westlife have been known to do many a cheesy pose in their time. And so we're thrilled to see that the artwork for their brand new album sees them striking one of their best model poses yet. The Irish boyband (that's Nicky, Kian, Mark and Shane) master the art of the staring-into-the-distance-longingly shot in the cover shot for their Greatest Hits. And we know we've probably drunk too many cups of tea slash been staring at a computer screen for too long but we've convinced ourselves they're staring at us. We reviewed the lads' brand new single Lighthouse and it made us feel all autumnal. And this shot is having the same affect - with the fresh blue sky, orange hues in the trees and the biker boots/cardis."
Fraser McAlpine of BBC Music
added: They arrived in the middle of a pre-X Factor boyband boom, five guys standing in a line, looking constipated in love, and plucking imaginary keys out of the air. In popular memory, every new single was a ballad, ending with a key-change, the boom of a confetti cannon, and a sudden leap off a line of stools. Fourteen number one singles and one former bandmate later and they’re leaving amid a craze for cavernously anthemic pop/classical albums, made by stubbly men in tuxedos who don’t care about credibility. It’s a genre they paved the way for, possibly without realising it. A Westlife greatest hits is a controversial thing. To some, the very idea is an oxymoron; to others, a missed opportunity for a box set. And while the addition of four new songs – at the expense of actual hits like When You’re Looking Like That – offers value for money for the fans, it defeats the object of the exercise a smidge. It’s strange listening to all of these triumph-after-adversity songs in one go, in the context of this being the band’s final album. In a way, they’ve been singing nothing but grand finales since their very first single, Swear It Again, and now the curtain is finally closing for real, there’s nowhere left to go, musically or emotionally. They’ve found that special thing; they’re flying without wings. Certainly the songs can’t swoosh upward any swooshier, the key changes can’t boom any louder. You get as far as You Raise Me Up, and it’s all over. Which is a problem for these new songs. Had the chipper Lighthouse – written by Gary Barlow – been released two years ago, it probably wouldn’t have made the list. On the other hand, the more agitated Beautiful World and Wide Open actually hint at new possibilities, being close to recent hits by Tinie Tempah
and Bruno Mars
respectively.
The genuine finale, Last Mile of the Way, is an understated country waltz – no key change, no boom, no fireworks: a rather sweet ending, and one your ears will probably be begging for after more than an hour of solid bombast.
CraveOnMusic expressed: "Greatest Hits presents an impressive body of work spanning Westlife's 14 years together. All of the favourites are accounted for such as 'Flying Without Wings', 'You Raise Me Up', and 'World Of Our Own. In addition to all of their number 1 hits are 4 previously unreleased tracks including lead single, 'Lighthouse', a mature and insightful swan song penned by fellow man bander, Gary Barlow. The 3 other new tracks are 'Beautiful World' which contains a building chorus of epic proportions, 'Wide Open' a stirring mid-tempo ballad, and 'Last Mile Of The Way' which is a lighters-at-the-ready, sway-athon, and ideal closer to Westlife's Greatest Hits. With a Greatest Hits Tour planned for 2012, Westlife aren't quite leaving us yet. The musical legacy they leave is unquestionable as is their role in boy to man band history. Go on, indulge and treat yourself. This album will no doubt find its way in to a number of stockings this Christmas.
digitalspy.co.uk had this to say, "After 13 years, ten studio albums and 31 singles, the question most people were asking when Westlife announced their split last month was how they managed to make it this long in an industry where you're the equivalent of day-old bread after your debut album. Our guess? Their dependability against an ever-changing pop landscape. Sure, the line of progression between their 1999 debut 'Swear It Again' and most recent single 'Lighthouse' is near-horizontal, but to their credit it also means they've had relatively few slip-ups in their expansive career. As such, we'll (happily) allow them to whitewash over 2004's big band covers record Allow Us to be Frank, which, despite its double platinum status, fails to get a single mention here.
While the retrospective features their most memorable cuts - including chart-toppers 'Flying Without Wings', 'Uptown Girl', 'Mandy' and 'You Raise Me Up' - there are still a number of notable omissions. Even today, 'Fool Again' remains one of their most recognisable hits, while Europe-only single 'When You're Looking Like That' from 2000's Coast to Coast proved they could handle uptempos if they put their minds to it. Even more frustrating is that after all the swooshing strings, dramatic key changes and carefully-selected covers, the three new cuts tacked on the end - 'Beautiful World' in particular - point to what could have been an interesting new direction for the band, should their record label have permitted it. Their decision to call time now means they probably wouldn't, and for that reason alone, we salute them."

Reception
Alistair McGeorge of Female First said: "Whilst this is the first release since the band split with Simon Cowell’s Syco label, the move won’t have had a huge effect on the record. Greatest Hits is a fine retrospective of one of the best boy-bands in history, from first single ‘Swear It Again’ to new track ‘Lighthouse’. Although the omissions of hits like ‘When You’re Looking Like That’ and ‘Bop Bop Baby’ seem surprising at first, most exclusions were featured on 2002′s Unbreakable: The Greatest Hits Volume 1. Listening to what is here, the album has a chilled out vibe, with a very solid selection of songs, and idea to order it chronologically is a nice touch, although it doesn’t add a great deal to the collection. There were debates before the Greatest Hits’ release, with the quartet discussing whether to re-record former bandmate Brian McFadden’s vocals. Thankfully, the tracks were left as they were, rather than being reimagined and eliminating a big part of Westlife’s sound early on. As much as any boyband tied to Cowell or Louis Walsh will come under criticism, their covers of hits like ‘Uptown Girl’ and ‘Mandy’ hold up well. The new songs are largely in the same (very) soft-rock ballad style, and fit in nicely as the final chapter in Westlife’s career. Across Greatest Hits, we’re taken on a journey from the band’s beginnings through to their last recordings, constantly reminded of the talent they showed.Fraser McAlpine of BBC Music
