on June 8, 1972, Magomedov made his MMA debut in 2000 at Samurai 2000 Tournament where he defeated the Japanese fighter Ryushi Yanagisawa
.
After being discovered by Satoru Sayama
and fighting for several years in Europe at some MMA events there such as Russian M-1 Mixfight and Holland's 2H2H, Magomedov debuted in Pride at the Pride Critical Countdown 2005
event on June 26, 2005, losing against the Croatian fighter Mirko Cro Cop. Magomedov is highly regarded in the European fight circuit and is considered to be one of the top heavyweight fighters to compete outside of the Japanese, and North American mixed martial arts organizations. On March 29, 2009 Magomedov faced highly respected Alexander Emelianenko at Pro FC 5 'Russia vs. Europe', where following a straight punch that landed on Emelianenko's jaw and knocked him down, Magomedov was subsequently cut by a punch Emelianenko landed and forced to forfeit. Magomedov also fought in the M-1 selections 2009 series where he defeated Gadzhimurad Nurmagomedov of the Russia Legion team at 1:30 of the first round, in Dagestan, Russia. He has trained for Red Devil Sport Club
, but now is a member of the Gorec mma team fighting out of Dagestan, Russia. On December 3, 2009 Magomedov was defeated by Alexander Volkov in the M-1 Challenge finals. Despite the loss, Magomedov's team Gorec was able to secure the season victory for 2009.
