The college is located on a 96 acres (388,498.6 m²) campus in the heart of the Chennai, in Nungambakkam
. Its tree-lined pathways, academic buildings, steepled Gothic
chapel and playgrounds make for a landmark in the southern metropolis. Its alumni include a former President of India, several statesmen and Union ministers, politicians, diplomats and civil servants, entertainers, writers and journalists.
The college has been conferred a "College with Potential For Excellence" status by the University Grants Commission
. It was also given a 10 million grant (1 Crore) in 2006 by the UGC for continual improvement of facilities.

Loyola College has a rich Cultural history, "Ovation's" which is its intra-collegiate annual cultural event is held at a whooping expense and organised by Loyola Students Union ! Apart from that "Ignite" a inter-college competition is also held every year. Loyola college is known for its Ace dance teams like "Loyola Dream Team" and "Loyola Zero-Gravity" which are city's best dance teams. Academics, Culturals and Co-curricular events are given equal importance in Loyola. Which is the reason Loyola remains city's best and the most preferred college and always ranked high by experts. Every student is proud to be a part of this college and calls himself/herself "A proud Loyolite"
