Marcelle Narbonne is the oldest living person in France and in Europe. She is also the 9th-oldest person in the world. She and Marie-Thérèse Bardet are the last 2 verified living French people born before 1900.

Biography

Marcelle Narbonne was born in Isserville in Algeria. She worked as a shorthand typist for much of her life. In 1962, she moved to mainland France when Algeria gained its independence from the French. Shortly after in 1963, Narbonne retired. Narbonne lived with her younger sister until her death at the age of 95 in 1999. From there, Marcelle moved to Capucines a retirement home in Argelès-Sur-Mer. On her 112th birthday in 2010, Narbonne was reported to be physically weak and walks short distances. She enjoys poetry, a glass of champagne and eats alone. She is currently on no medications and speaks very little.
