Paris Saint-Germain F.C. Reserves and Academy
Encyclopedia
The Paris Saint-Germain F.C. Reserves and Academy are the reserve team and academy of French
football club Paris Saint-Germain. The Camp des Loges
serves as the home facility for the club's Reserves and Academy sides (both male and female), which play their home matches at the Stade Georges Lefèvre. It is located in the commune
of Saint-Germain-en-Laye
, located in the western suburbs of Paris
. The facility is known for its high-level training and several prominent players have passed through the youth training center. Notable graduates of the academy include Nicolas Anelka
, Luis Fernández
, Mamadou Sakho
, Bérangère Sapowicz
and Aurélie Conforti. Pedro Alonso was the first director of the training center. Bertrand Reuzeau is the current director. Paris Saint-Germain also has a pre-training center, which houses young players aged 15 and under, located in Verneuil-sur-Seine
.
The main objective of the Camp des Loges is training elite players while providing a suitable learning curriculum. A host of great French players, who have gone on to play for the national team
have trained at the academy. The training center of PSG regularly hosts the new promising football talents. Thanks to a partnership policy with the clubs in Île-de-France
, many young children, since the age of 13, join the training center. The Camp des Loges is recognised by the FFF
as one of the best formation and pre-formation centers in France
, being classified as Class 1 and Class A in recent seasons. The LFP
announced the classification of training centers for the 2010–11
season. Paris Saint-Germain appeared in the top 10, being ranked in 9th position largely thanks to their double coronation as U-19 and U-17 French champions. PSG Reserves and Academy are one of the most prestigious in French football having won three Coupe de Paris, three Championnat National U-19, two Challenge du Meilleur Club de Jeunes, one Championnat DH Paris, one Coupe Gambardella
, one Championnat National U-17, one Championnat de France Cadets, one Tournoi Carisport and one DH Île-de-France Féminine.
. The league is open to the best reserve teams and amateur clubs in France. However, only the amateur clubs with the most points of each group at the end of the season are eligible for promotion to the Championnat National
. The best reserve teams of each group, meanwhile, are inserted into a tournament to decide the champion. The capital club has never won the CFA. During the 2009-10 season, PSG B reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by eventual champions Olympique Lyonnais
. The Reserves have won the Coupe de Paris in three different occasions: 1972, 1973 and 1980. Paris Saint-Germain B recorded a scoreless draw against USM Malakoff in the final. The club narrowly defeated Malakoff in the replay and was crowned champion of the Coupe de Paris for first time in its history in 1972. A year later, "Les Parisiens" claimed back-to-back titles following their narrow win over Poissy
. The Reserves landed their third and last Coupe de Paris in 1980. Seven years later, PSG B reached the semi-finals of the Championnat de France de Division 3 before being eliminated by Châtellerault
. The Coupe de Paris changed through the years and the DSR squad, the club's third team, now represented the PSG reserves in the tournament. The capital club finished runners-up of the Coupe de Paris after being defeated by CFA club Moissy in 2010. Despite being three divisions apart, Moissy had to wait until extra-time to narrowly defeat Paris Saint-Germain. The classification of training centers established by the LFP
, ranked PSG's training center in 11th position in 2010, but at the forefront of the list regarding the selection of club-grown players.
since 1963. The youngsters won the cup in 1991, reaching the final in 1978, 1989, and 1998, and the semifinals in 1972, 1975, 1986, 1990, and 2001. The junior team won the Championnat de France Cadets in 1988. Paris Saint-Germain reached the final in 1980, and the semifinals in 1985, and 1989. Paris Saint-Germain won the Challenge du Meilleur Club de Jeunes of the French Football Federation
at the end of the 1988-89 season. From 1990 to 2002, the junior French championship was split in two leagues: Under-17 and Under-15 years. The Under-15 team reached the semifinals in 1992, 2001, and 2002, and the quarterfinals in 1994, 1997, 1998, and 1999. The Under-17 squad, meanwhile, reached the quarterfinals in 1991, 1996, 2001, and 2002.
The junior French championship was divided in three groups in 2002: Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 years. The Under-14 team have only won their group in 2003, while finishing second on goal difference in 2004. The Under-18 team reached the quarterfinals in 2003, and in 2006 David Bechkoura led the team to the club's first league title after their 2-0 victory against Monaco
. The Under-16 reached the semifinals in 2004, before finishing runners-up in 2008. Jean-Luc Vasseur's side was defeated in the national final by arch-rivals Olympique de Marseille
despite a good performance. Olympian striker Nicolas Crus scored the only goal of the match in the first period. The French youth competitions adopted the international conventions "U-19" (Under-19) and "U-17" (Under-17) from the 2009–10 season. Jean-Luc Vasseur led the Under-17 squad to the final where after a 4-4 draw "Les Parisiens" lost on penalties against Sochaux
in 2010. David Bechkoura's Under-19, meanwhile, repeated the 2006 feat after defeating Monaco on penalties in the final with the encouragement of Paris Saint-Germain's U-17 side, who had played their final the night before (a loss on penalties to Sochaux). PSG's U-19 championship final against Monaco went down to the wire but David Bechkoura's players made the difference in a penalty shootout to claim the win. The championship title is a fitting reward for the entire PSG youth academy, capping off a stellar season that saw its three top teams all win through to the finals in their respective categories.
The championship won by the Under-19 emphasized a great season from the youth ranks as both the CFA and the Under-17 squads reached the playoffs in their respective leagues. After Jordan Lapelosa scored the winning penalty, the whole Parisian expedition invaded the Stade Omnisport d'Orléans. The win in the Under-19 Championship Final against Monaco (0-0, 4-2 on pens) rewarded several years of effective work done by the recruitment, the preformation and the formation center. These were the same players who had narrowly lost the Under-16 title two years ago. Therefore this success had even more flavor. Unfortunate finalists in their category against Sochaux (4-4, 4-2 pens), the Under-17 mingled at the party and forgot their disappointment. Beyond a victory, it must emphasized the excellent course of this team throughout the year. Jean-Luc Vasseur's players finished unbeaten having scored no fewer than 74 goals and conceded only 10 as they finished 19 points ahead of their nearest rival. The quality of play shown in the final gave high hopes for this generation.
football club Paris Saint-Germain, and have a united squad where players from PSG B can play for the U-19 team and viceversa. Simon Tahar, PSG Association President, has already expressed his strong ambitions for PSG Ladies as the capital club intends to open by 2012 a special formation center whose first professional player might come out in 2014. The initiative will be pursued if PSG Ladies can maintain a good performance throughout the coming seasons. Simon Tahar expects the ladies to secure a big club status in the Division 1 Féminine which will allow the club to fight for the title and participate in the UEFA Women's Champions League. PSG Ladies continued to expand with the creation of a college sports section. Brigitte Henriques, General Manager, detailed the project which is being structured with the support of the entire club. Paris Saint-Germain is aiming to provide a formation center within 3 years and in order to achieve this there several steps to be followed. First, last September, the capital club created a female football school for 6-8 years. The following year, PSG will be opening a college sports section accessible to the 4th and 3rd. The entrance examination will be open to all girls born in 1995-1996. The objective will be to have them join to the professional squad 4 to 5 years. The third stage of the project will be a high school sports section and will open in September 2011. Within three years, PSG will be aiming to inaugurate a formation center for the female section. As women's football is globally booming, the French Football Federation
decided to create a Championat National U-18 and PSG seized the news to recruit in this category for them to present a competitive team next season. Currently the club has 105 licensed players, including 30 seniors. The goal is to have 160 or 180 licensed players between 6 and 20 years within three years.
