line. Between 1864 and 1989 a lime factory operated in Rekingen. There was also a cement plant from 1975–95 and a hardware factory between 1955-2001. In 1914 the Swiss Sodafabrik (name was changed in 1922 to Solvay), was founded on a factory site which was half in Rekingen and half in Zurzach.
Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 6.5% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 6.8% and transportation infrastructure made up 4.2%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 7.1% of the area Out of the forested land, 54.5% of the total land area is heavily forested and 2.9% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 4.5% is used for growing crops and 9.0% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.
The municipality is located in the Zurzach district, along the Rhine river near the Böbikon
valley. It consists of the haufendorf village (an irregular, unplanned and quite closely packed village, built around a central square) of Rekingen.
