The school accepted the first batch of students in SY 1956-57 with Mrs. Amanda Trinidad as School Principal. This first batch of students eventually graduated in 1959. The term of Mrs. Trinidad as Principal was short lived. She was succeeded by Mrs. Amparo G. Noel who served from 1956 to 1964; followed by Mrs. Mercedes M. Flores (1964-1969); Sr. Lydia V. Arcader, OP, an alumna (1969-1970); and Miss Corazon B. Dela Peña, another alumna, who also served as Principal from 1970 to 1972.
While the academic program (Graduate in Nursing-GN) was open to the administration of the lay, the directorship of the school was held exclusively by the Sisters. Sr. Pauline, the first Directress retired in 1961. She was succeeded by Sr. Rita Stang, OP. As a nurse who understood the needs and problems of the growing school of nursing, Sr. Rita instituted the much-needed development programs of the school.
The SY 2004-2005 was also a year of more linkages and networks. The Graduate School , now under Dr. Desiderio N. Noveno, Jr. as Dean, had converted the enrolment from the two-semester system to trimester enrolment. Likewise, a curriculum audit was held to keep the graduate programs relevant to the current needs of client industries and institutions. Two more consortia in MA in Nursing program were established with the Notre Dame of Marbel University (NDMU) in Koronadal City and with Notre Dame University (NDU) in Cotabato City . The consortia provide SPC the opportunity to assist the other higher education institutions in building their faculty qualification, especially in nursing education and at the same time, boost the enrolment of the graduate school.
The basic literacy program for indigenous people of the CES also caught the attention of the government in 2004. This project was jointly recognized and accepted into the Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (BEAM) Project supervised by the Department of Education (DepEd) and funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Aid Program (AusAid).
Another five-storey building is underway to provide more classrooms and to house more facilities for the ever-growing population of clientele. The college remain proud of the achievements of its graduates. In SY 2004-2005 alone, the Pharmacy Department was cited twice as Top Performing School of Pharmacy; Top 2 in July 2004 and Top 3 in the January 2005 Licensure Examination. All these years also, the Nursing Department remained as one among the Top Performing Schools of Nursing in the country. Nine alumni received the President's Award during the 2005 Commencement Exercises: two topnotchers in the 2004 Medical Technology Licensure Examination and seven High Raters in the 2004 Nurse Licensure Examination. To date, San Pedro College has already produced a total of 120 Board Topnotchers and 7 High Raters.
In the hands of the current President of the college are the tasks of sustaining the reputation of SPC as a highly credible higher education institution in the country and the challenge of leading the college to what it is envisioned to be beyond its golden anniversary in 2006.
It believes in: individual and personal development through love and hard work; open admission and religious freedom; meaningful education as manifested in sound professional and technical training for community services and national development; and providing every man an opportunity to education to enable him to develop his capacities and potentials as a person.

Purposes
The primary purpose of the SPC library is to provide information and bibliographic resources that are responsive to the educational and research needs of students and the faculty. It aims to provide materials necessary to meet the basic research needs of college administration and staff as well as providing materials that will enhance lifelong learning.
It also aims to provide materials to meet the recreational, cultural and vocational needs of the college community.
The library supports the educational programs of the college through the following areas of service: collection development; circulation; reference; reserve; cooperative and reciprocal relationships.

Library Services
Reserve Collection
The Reserve Collection of textbooks and other materials selected by faculty members as required reading are kept “on reserve” behind the circulation desk. These are loaned out for short periods or a few hours to users and must be used within the library. However, some materials may be borrowed for overnight use. Overnight loan period is: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Only one reserve book is allowed per student.
Circulation Collection
Circulating books may be borrowed for a three-day period. Three books can be borrowed at one time. One renewal is allowed for materials loaned out, provided no one else has requested them.

User Education / Reference Services
The library can assist in locating information and can provide instruction in the use of the library services such as the use of the on-line public access catalog (OPAC), the CD-ROMs and the Internet. It provides library orientation to freshmen and transferees at the beginning of the school year. Library instruction can be arranged upon request.
Internet / Computer Services
Within the library are computer terminals. Fifteen computers, connected to the campus network, are provided for students, faculty and staff to search and access Internet sources. The Student Internet Access Card is provided by the Computer Department. CD ROMs are also available and may be requested from the Internet/Computer Facility In-charge. Patrons accessing materials on CD ROM shall be allowed to use the computer station for a certain period.
The Internet facility is for research only. Chatting, e-mail and word processing are not allowed.
Computer printout shall be treated as photocopied material. Therefore, a corresponding charge is levied.
Inter Library Loan / Resource Sharing Service
The library has engaged in an interlibrary loan/ resource sharing agreement with institutions that are members of the Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS) and the Davao Private School Librarians Association (DPSLA). A letter of referral is necessary from the college/school librarian of the requesting student to the SPC library. The policies of the lending institution will be observed.
LIBRARY OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog )
To find library materials, the readers have to search the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). This database contains titles of books the library has. There are two computer terminals for the purpose. It also provides an index to articles in journals received after 2001. Index to articles in journals before 2001 are found in the Periodical Index.
Photocopying Service
Photocopying service is provided to users. A minimal charge is assessed for every photocopied page.
The library also provides services for scanning colored pictures. Inquiries about this service can be addressed at the Circulation Desk.
Study Group Rooms
The library has provided within the library five-group study rooms. Most rooms can accommodate up to eight persons
Students can use the group study rooms for a three- hour period.
This facility is intended for student study-related purposes only and may not be reserved for club meetings, class instructions or similar activities.
Room reservations are made in person at the Reserve Section Desk three days in advance. It is required that the group's instructor must affix his signature on the reservation form.
Food, beverages and audio-equipment are prohibited in the Group Study Rooms.
Any group observed violating any of the above-described rules maybe asked to leave the rooms or the library.
Library Softwares
The library is fully automated. For the automation of all its operations, the library utilizes the software ATHENA.
With the use of a computer program called Patron Access Monitoring System (PSAMS) the library can monitor all patrons coming in to the library. This program generates accurate data on all patrons utilizing the library. The library also utilizes a library security system.
Technical Services
The library processes all materials it receives before they are circulated. These processes include classification and cataloging, covering, labeling and providing color code strips. It also keeps detailed records of all acquisitions. Likewise, it maintains the library's automated catalog.

Inspired by the Most Rev. Clovis Thibault, PME, then Bishop of Davao, the Dominican Sisters led by Sr. Pauline Guilmette, OP and Sr. Cecile Denise, OP, laid the foundation of the San Pedro Hospital School of Nursing.
