during prime time on September 27, 2011. The series was produced to mark the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution.

and the Publicity Department of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, planning for the series started in 2008 and preparations were completed by the second half of 2009. A press conference was held on October 24, 2010 at the Great Hall of the People
in Beijing
to announce the series. Shooting began on the following day in Tianjin
and wrapped up on March 15, 2011. Director Li Wei stated that the story would be as historically accurate as possible, and that there is historical evidence to substantiate the manner in which the 200 over historical figures are portrayed in the series.
