Grist lives in Hamburg with her husband, Dr. Ulf Thomson, 1981-87 Artistic Administrator of the Norddeutsche Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, 1987–91 General Manager of the Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
